The Healthiest State Annual Walk was held on Wednesday, October 7. Leading up to the walk, the Healthiest State Initiative held a School Mascot Challenge.  St. Mary’s Catholic School was the winner of the challenge and will receive $1,000 towards health and wellness.

High School Principal, Mr. Ryan Berg states, “I would like to personally thank all of our parents, students, staff, alumni, and other community members and supporters who voted for us throughout the Mascot Challenge. As one of the smaller schools in the state, it is a true testament to the wonderful support we have from so many individuals near and far that helped us win the competition. We are excited to look into ways that we will be able to put the prize money to good use to enhance the health and wellness of our students and staff.”

On Wednesday, the student body, staff and faculty of Storm Lake St. Mary’s participated in the Healthy Iowa Walk.  To ensure students stayed properly social distanced, high school and middle school students walked in the morning and elementary students walked in the afternoon.

After a blessing from President, Fr. Brent Lingle and school chaplain Fr. Michael Cronin, each class left the school playground, walked down and around Chautauqua Park and ended the mile walk back at the school.  The students enjoyed the fitness activity with beautiful weather to top it off.
