Local Scholarships

The Storm Lake community offers several local scholarships for graduating seniors of St. Mary's.

Buena Vista County Farm Bureau Seeking 2023 Scholarship Applications
The Buena Vista County Farm Bureau scholarship program is accepting applications for the 2023 school year. Five graduating seniors will be chosen to receive the $1,000, $750 and three $500 awards with one applicant selected for consideration for the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) $2,500 state scholarship, renewable for four years (up to $10,000).

Eligibility is reserved for current Iowa Farm Bureau members or their children in good standing with the organization. To be considered, the graduating high school student must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average, be involved in extra-curricular activities and accepted into an accredited higher education institution, including community colleges and technical schools.

To apply, students must demonstrate their leadership and community involvement and submit a typewritten essay detailing how they would use a scholarship award to support Iowa Farm Bureau’s mission of creating a vibrant future for agriculture, farm families and their communities.

The application deadline is Friday, February 3, 2023.

Applications will only be accepted online through the Iowa Farm Bureau portal.

To learn more about county scholarship programs, call Jan at Buena Vista County Farm Bureau office 712-732-4004 or email [email protected].

PLEASE NOTE: The Farm Bureau scholarship application is different this year as they are requiring applicants to go through their portal and applications are being submitted to IFBF Des Moines and then IFBF will send the completed applications back to the applicable county Farm Bureau office. In the past years, applications were submitted to the local county Farm Bureau office. Some of the students/families might question that change.

Applications are now available for the Nelda Nelson Memorial Scholarship. The $1,500 scholarship is open to any high school senior residing in Buena Vista County planning on attending a community college, technical school, college or university. Interested students may send an email to [email protected] to request an application which will be attached to a return email or contact your high school counselor. The application deadline is February 3, 2023.

The Nelda Nelson Memorial Scholarship was established by Buena Vista County Farm Bureau in memory of Nelda, who was an Office Administrator at the Buena Vista County Farm Bureau for 44 years. Nelda was a kind and generous person who was a strong supporter of students and education.

This scholarship is for graduating seniors within a 40 mile radius of BVRMC pursuing a health related field of educational study (nursing, radiology, physical therapy, paramedic, and other careers in the medical field). The scholarship is not needs based and will be awarded in the amount of $1000 upon completion of the first 2023 academic semester. Please see Mrs. Friedrichsen for exact guidelines and copy of application. Applicants will need to submit an application and letter of reference to BVRMC by March 31st. Applicants will be reviewed and notified recipients in April.
